Page_header_layout

The header section of the page (the visible page top, not the non-displaying HTML head) has admin configuration options for these items, as of TikiWiki 2.0:
  • Logo
  • Ad banner
  • Site search form
  • Log-in form
  • Menu
  • Fullscreen view button

New arrangement needed

In legacy themes, each of these items is generally the full width of the page and simply stack up vertically when activated.

Because many designed themes expect these items to fit in a limited space, new themes use a method to place items side by side, etc., instead of stacking them vertically. This results in a more conventional web page layout and enables the page-top content to conform to a page background image or other dimensional constraint.

Logo, banner, etc.

The header is divided into a header-top and tiki-top (these are CSS divs). The header-top contains the logo, banner, fullscreen view button, and log-in form. The tiki-top area contains the menu and the search form. This is the new-theme default arrangement, for full-width *litecss-based themes. For narrower "centered box" themes, the search form is sometimes moved to the header-top area.

The header-top area is mainly occupied by the logo and banner. It's been possible to specify left, center, or right display of the logo for some time. In the new theme layout, the banner ad, when activated, takes the position opposite the logo. If the logo is specified for the center position, the banner is placed at the left and is only half-banner size. A second banner zone is designated to the right of the logo and can be configured using the banner admin.

For Tiki 3 (code now in Subversion trunk), a text site title and site subtitle can be specified on the Look & Feel admin page. They will display in the logo space and so can be designated left, centered, or right. If both a logo image and site title and/or subtitle lines are used, the logo will float to the left of the text (not implemented yet, as of this writing).

The header log-in form, if used, is positioned absolutely (CSS designation) near the bottom right corner of the header-top area. The fullscreen view button, if that feature is activated, is absolutely positioned near the top left of the area.

Custom code

If some content or arrangement is wanted beyond what is provided by the standard options, the "custom code" box can be used to input it. The area for custom code will be full width unless the header banner ad is also activated. Then the custom code will get the left side of the header area, and the banner will be placed on the right.

Below the header-top area is the tiki-top area, which generally holds the PHP Layers (or CSS "suckerfish") menu at left and a site search form, if activated, at right.
